We were recently approached by the publishers of The Brides of North Texas magazine about collaborating on a never-been-done fashion concept for their most recent issue. Of course, we said "Heck yeah!" Their idea was to bring together complimenting bridesmaids and groomsmen attire in one shoot. Typically, focus is on one or the other but these ladies really wanted to show how you can use fashion to bring everyone together! The feel was to be really documentary and fun, not just smiling and modeling for the camera... just my style!

Kelly, Tim, and I have decided that we are destined to be blessed/cursed with rain every time we get together. Their engagements were interrupted by unexpected rain, and their wedding day started with much needed rainstorms! The first time we were none-too-happy about it, but rain in August this year?? Amanda & Steve had one of the most emotion filled weddings I've documented recently. There was joy and tears flowing throughout the entire day and I have to confess, I too got caught up in the waterworks! Allow me to recap:

Q: Tell us about yourself... Did you always want this to be your career or did you stumble upon your talent by chance?

A: Are you kidding? My poor mother would come home from work at the hospital all day and I would have rearranged all the furniture. But there was dinner that I found in Southern Living, on the table, so it kinda balanced out.

Q: How did you get started in doing this for weddings?

A: I started on the other side of the stove, in the kitchen. Graduated from the Culinary Hyde Park, NY in 1990 and was Chef de Sauté at the Fairmont Pyramid Room (the older, amazing one – not the thing that’s there now) and then moved upstairs and did a lot of pastry work. Spent two years as Sommelier for the Delta Queen Steamboat Co. Came home and got involved with a shady group of people called “Off-Premise Caterers” and felt way at home. It’s a good fit for how ADD I am – creative, fast paced, always a different location, changing menus, and once the client loves you, they want you to design everything else too. So, I’ve spent the last fifteen plus years designing party experiences for groups from 2 to 1500.

Q: What is the best part of your job?

A: Doing what I love and getting paid to do it for really great people.

Q: What’s your best wedding story or your most memorable event?

A: I have really great memories of flying down 29^th Street in Austin, behind the box van, in my black Camaro convertible, both packed to over-flowing with waiters, wedding cakes, canapés and columns. Not that that was the pinnacle of anything, but it was just fun and kinda Priscilla Queen of the Party.

Q: What’s been your biggest accomplishment to date… personal or professional?

A: Living past 30? I dunno – achieving some sort of balance between work and life. I have a really sweet family and am glad that I know that and that we all make time to hang out together.

If you want my “pageant answer” – the year that I swept the NACE national awards at a glamorous supper party in San Diego!

Kelly & Tim's session was a first for me... I typically check the weather right before a session if there is a chance of rain, which there was the day Kelly, Tim, and I got together. So I left the house, nothing on the radar. By the time I got to downtown the clouds opened up! We stood under a covering in the pouring rain next to the beautiful downtown park we'd intended to use and hatched a back-up plan which involved the inside of Kelly's apartment building and the covered walkways of the West End. Fortunately it stopped raining after about 30 minutes and we were able to venture outside. I love that it made us use some unexpected areas and Kelly & Tim were game for any ideas I had!

Beth & Scott: First United Methodist Dallas and Edison's

Beth and Scott were married back in January, somehow I missed blogging this wonderful wedding! Terrible me...

Beth and Scott came to me as a referral from one of my past couples.. yeah! We hit it off from day one and I knew they would be an absolute joy to work with! Their wedding took place at the stunning First United Methodist Church in downtown Dallas with the reception at Edison's. Their traditional church ceremony was cozy and inviting, and the lounge feel to the reception made everyone comfortbale and relaxed. The drizzly weather couldn't keep everyone from having an absolute blast!

They totally trusted me when I told them we were meeting in the swank rundown area of Fort Worth! Only the best for my clients. It took their daughter a little while to warm up to me but once she did she had a blast, as so did we! :)

I have a Creative Memories scrapbook as my wedding album. I know, I know, it's disgraceful and I am ashamed. However, I know this is a safe place and I feel it's time to come clean. What better day than on my 11 year wedding anniversary to confess my regrets for not hiring a true professional?

I did the best I could with what I had:

Don't get me wrong, the pictures I do have are great, our photographer was a great photographer... but he was a terrible businessman. A scoundrel and a scheister in fact. He tried to skip town and leave us high-and-dry without our album OR the images! With my CIA background (kidding) I was able to track him down and threaten him in no uncertain terms... "I want my negatives, punk, or it's gonna get ugly." So I was delivered exactly that: 30 rolls of negatives. No prints, no proofs, no online posting, no digital files. Honestly, a Creative Memories scrapbook was as good as it got for us.

So I leave you today with a 'silver lining' message: It's not too late for you! Hire a true creative and business professional on your wedding day, spend the money on a great photographer and an amazing album. It's the one indulgence that won't ever leave you with buyers remorse! Trust me...

Tierney & Casey: Old Red Courthouse

Tierney & Casey had an amazing vintage winter themed wedding complete with antique ornaments on the tables, old lanterns at the ceremony, and a vintage getaway car! They once told me they wanted their day to feel like a simpler time and focused on the love and warmth of being surrounded by family and friends. I certianly felt all that come through on their big day and it truly felt like their guests did too.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs Wright! :)

The officiating minister was actually Casey's uncle... he had some great personal stories to tell!

I LOVE this series of the two of them right after the ceremony. I call these the first moments of "WE'RE MARRIED!" bliss... just perfect.

Fabulous room lighting from Randal Stout Entertainment really helped set the mood.

Tierney is a ballet dancer and LOVES performing the Nutcracker. These cones filled with potpourri for their getaway were made from sheet music of the Nutcracker Suite. Such an awesome personal touch!

I dig this girl's laugh and smile. So contagious!

Reed Family Portraits

I was so excited to hear from the Reed's after photographing their wedding a couple years back. Misti told me they had a beautiful daughter already and another on the way! How awesome, I couldn't wait to photograph them again. Everleigh was absolutely beautiful but I expected nothing less... Camera Clicks Cure Cancer... the results show

I cannot thank my fabulous clients enough. They helped me raise almost $1000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by participating in my Camera Clicks Cure Cancer event in November. Luke is 6 months old! WEE BABY

6 months old and still bald as a cue ball. Gotta say, it's one of the things that makes Luke so stinkin' cute! Well that, and the fact that he's tall as a stick and just as big around. I have loved watching this kiddo grow up. He's always full of smiles for me and his sessions always mean I get to catch up with his fabulous parents. The BIGGEST plus in my book! :) Love you Ross Family!

Whitney & Josh: St. Michael's and All Angels and Park Cities Hilton

Whitney and Josh were referred to us by the fabulous Keith family and we were so excited to work with them! They chose the awesome little chapel at St. Micheal's and All Angels in Dallas for their ceremony. From there they partied the night away at the Park Cities Hilton. I think this was certainly one of the most relaxed and stress-free weddings I've seen in some time The bride had planned and planned, but she knew at this point "the show" was going to go on no matter what happened. Fortunately, nothing bad happened and everything went off without a hitch. Well, I guess there was one "hitch"! Congratulations guys!

My nephew, Sullivan, is 3 months old and smiled like a champ for his recent session. And smiled, and laughed, and smiled... He did so good and he's just so stinkin' cute! Here he is sporting his super-scary Halloween onesie and his costume.

Alli's senior portraits in Deep Ellum

Alli chose the grittiness of Deep Ellum for her senior portraits and we had such a great time. One of the local venues even let us in to do some pictures... very fun! Alli is such a beautiful girl and reminds me of my best friend from gradeschool and we had a blast running all over Deep Ellum and creating fabulous pictures!
